Doctors’ Strike: NUJ Calls for Truce

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has call for a amicable resolution of the industrial quagmire between the federal  government and the striking members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA). NUJ President, Mohammed Garba, during an interaction with journalists yesterday in Abuja, said the face-off between the government and the NMA was worrisome, especially at the time the nation is battling with the Ebola virus epidemic. While we do not support the continued strike  by the resident doctors, it is very disturbing that the stoppage of the Residency Training Programme (RTP) in federal government hospitals has put 16,000 resident doctors across the country out of work. Nigeria cannot afford any strike by doctors at this critical period and we call on the striking doctors to resume work immediately and unconditionally, he said.
