The World Bank has called for domestication of the $500 million
Erosion and Watershed Management Project, currently being financed by the bank.
The bank's Country Director to Nigeria, Marie Francois Marie-Nelly stated this
Thursday in Abuja at the launch of the Erosion and Watershed Management
Project, geared towards mitigating environmental degradation in some selected
states of the federation, mostly, erosion affected states. Marie-Nelly called
for the need to seek lasting solution to the menace of erosion among the
participating states of Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia, Edo and Cross Rivers
States. The bank direcfor harped on the imperative of local ownership and
domestication of the project and commended those implementing it for their
innovative strategy that is based on both reclamation and control.
